During the 1970's decade there were many tragedies and hardships, including but not limited to, the Vietnam War, the 1973 oil crisis, and Munich Massacre in Germany. There were also many political scandals, such as Watergate. This was also a time of great change and revolution. Things that had previously been unacceptable became normal. One of the greatest examples of this is the "Sexual Revolution". For the first time in American history people started to push for things like freedom of sexual speech/expression and premarital sex. Children and teens no longer followed the rules of etiquette that their parents taught them. There was also a huge movement for Gay rights and marriage (which we still see today). This revolution completely changed the way that Americans thought about sex and expressed themselves. It also caused a lot of research into birth control. There was a lot of motivation for women's rights, and the "hippie" trends from the 60's carried over into the 70's. However, along with the sexual revolution and huge push for peace, there also came the Drug Revolution. During this time rock and disco music were very popular.
